Julia Li

Enthusiasm and interest are the biggest drivers of learning
Jingwen, a 2009 high school international class student at Xi'an Bodhi School, graduated from Ohio Kent State University in 2017 as an undergraduate, and was admitted to Parsons School of Design in New York, USA in 2018, majoring in Fashion Design, and is currently a master's degree student, and her works in 2019 have been published in vogue, a well-known fashion magazine in the United States.
In the interview, Jingwen Li introduced herself as a student at Bodhi Boarding International Classes before applying for undergraduate programs, learning and adapting to the English learning environment and related basic courses in advance, as well as studying for the IELTS and SAT in advance, and preparing for applying to U.S. colleges and universities in her senior year of high school. "The overall learning experience is that the curriculum is more diversified, and American high school related courses such as philosophy, American history, and speaking classes are taught by foreign teachers."
Jingwen Li said, "I think it's the biggest gain to be able to enter an English-dominated learning environment in advance to really get in touch with the multiculturalism of Europe and the United States, and at the same time broaden my knowledge outside of the textbook and change the traditional thinking mode."
The language barrier is a very important aspect for international students. Jingwen Li said that learning the language herself is a gradual process of proficiency, one is to take the initiative to create an English context, such as watching American dramas and listening to English songs, etc. If you want to improve quickly, it is recommended that you watch and listen carefully to learn the characters in the dramas to speak; the second is that you can watch more talk shows or interesting interviews, the process of independent understanding of foreign cultures in addition to learning from their mode of thinking as well as the practical application of the sentence pattern.
Regarding her academic and career plans, Jingwen Li says that passion and interest are the biggest drivers. "During the stage of applying to schools and choosing a major, I decided to study fashion design at Kent State University based on my passion, which was opposed by my whole family. I thought that in the long run, I should go to a big city and a school with a better overall ranking, and study a more secure major to obtain better resources and richer insights. But at the undergraduate level, I think the major ranking is often a bit more important than the overall ranking." So, despite her family's opposition, Li gave up the opportunity to study in a big city and insisted on going to a "small rural village" to study design, which also laid a solid foundation for graduate school admission to the best design schools.
After graduating from Kent State University in 2017, Jingwen Li decided to hit the art dream school in a better city - Parsons School of Design in New York, which is ranked second in the world for design programs. Because the apparel design program is a tough path of study, Jennifer Lee later worked hard and eventually managed to get into the Graduate Department of Apparel at Parsons School of Design, which has less than a 5% acceptance rate in the world.
For students who want to apply for international classes, it is very important to dig into understanding your preferences as well as your strengths in advance, says Ms. Jingwen Li. When choosing a major and a school, ask yourself if you like it and if you are willing to put in a lot of energy, time and passion for it. She told the reporter that because she insisted on her favorite profession, although the journey was hard and unusual, but in the end, she also got more and better opportunities for herself.
She suggested that students who want to go to Europe and the United States to study, it is best to take advantage of the holiday time to do more and their own professional-related internships, which is very important for the future application for jobs and expanding contacts.
